Specifications and Advantages of BTS Multilayer Pipes
Specifications and Advantages of BTS Five-Layer Pipes
Generally, five-layer pipes are categorized based on the types of polymers used in their structure:
-
PE-RT / AL / PE-RT
-
PE-X / AL / PE-X
-
PE-X / AL / PE-RT
BTS pipes are of the PE-Xb / AL / PE-RT (Type II) variety, manufactured under strict quality control processes and tested according to defined standards and procedures.
-
The inner layer is made of PE-Xb, a cross-linked polyethylene (using the silane method), which is ideal for potable water and heating/cooling systems. Its key advantage is the very smooth internal surface, which prevents pressure loss, scaling, and corrosion.
-
The outer layer is made of PE-RT (Type II), which provides excellent mechanical and chemical protection against external impacts and scratches. It also protects the pipe from electrochemical reactions with soil and external substances.
-
The middle layer is composed of aluminum alloy, which acts as a barrier to oxygen and light while adding flexibility and mechanical strength. This layer must have a tensile strength of 100 MPa and a minimum elongation at break of 20%.
-
The aluminum layer in BTS pipes is joined using ultrasonic butt-welding, where high-frequency mechanical vibrations fuse the aluminum edges together.
-
Bonding layers of high-performance polyethylene adhesive connect the aluminum to the inner and outer layers. This adhesive is engineered to withstand high temperatures over extended periods while maintaining layer integrity.
📦 Sizes and Packaging
BTS pipes are available in the following formats:
-
Sizes 16–32 mm: supplied in coils of 200 to 50 meters
-
Sizes 40, 50, and 63 mm: supplied in 5.25-meter straight lengths
All dimensions, including outer diameter, wall thickness, aluminum thickness, and inner diameter, comply with relevant standards.
-
Maximum working pressure: 10 bar
-
Maximum operating temperature: 95°C
✅ Key Advantages of BTS Five-Layer Pipes
-
Lightweight and long-lasting due to the combination of polymer and aluminum
-
Easy to transport and store (coiled sizes for 16–32 mm)
-
Flexible and easy to install thanks to the use of PE-X and PE-RT polymers
-
High mechanical and chemical resistance provided by the PE-RT outer layer
-
Reduced installation errors and labor mistakes
-
Shorter installation time and lower costs due to hand-bendable pipes and fewer fittings required
-
No change in water color or odor (thanks to PE-X in the inner layer)
-
Oxygen barrier and low thermal expansion due to the aluminum layer
-
Ideal thermal conductivity and long-term heat/pressure resistance (polymer + aluminum)
-
Low pressure drop, anti-scaling and anti-corrosion inner layer (smooth PE-X surface)
-
Minimized noise from the system, including water hammer effects
